Field trips

Post-conference field trips to the Altai Mountains, Northwestern (Rudnyi) Altai and Novosibirsk region will be offered for participants of the Conference and accompanying persons.

We prolong the registration for the field trips up to the 1st April

You can load the program of each excursions clicking the picture with it's name

General Information:
The field excursion includes field observations of the main and easily accessible geological objects in the Altai Mountains. The program of excursion includes:
1) Study of sedimentary, metamorphic and magmatic complexes illustrating the evolution of the geological structure of the Gorny Altai in Early Paleozoic (oceanic and island-arc stage), Middle Paleozoic (active continental margin stage) and Late Paleozoic – Mesozoic (intraplate stage);
2) Visit the gold, mercury and polymetallic deposits in the Gorny Altai;
3) Familiarization with Cenozoic landforms and complexes illustrating the latest tectonic activity of the Altai Mountains.

During the trip we will also enjoy beautiful views of the Altai Mountains.

Expected weather conditions:
Sunny, chance of rain – small. It may be hot during the day (up to 30ºC) but cold during the night (+5 ÷ +10°С). Windy weather and sudden weather changes are available. You must have warm clothes.

General information:
The North-Western Altai is a famous ore-bearing region in which a number of types of mineralization have occurred. Because of its ore potential and significance, this part of Altai is known as Rudny Altai (“Ore Altai”). Since 1745 polymetallic, copper and gold ores have been mined from the deposits of this area. The Rudny Altai is situated at the boundary with the Gorny Altai, separated by the Loktevka–Cherny Irtysh Deep Fault and Northeastern Shear Zone. The region is characterized by long-term geodynamic evolution and a complex geological structure that influenced by the formation of unique volcanic-hosted base-metal massive sulfide deposits. This highly productive ore belt formed during the Hercynian cycle, which began with a stage of initial rifting (Early Devonian), followed by an island-arc stage (Middle Devonian–Early Carboniferous), subsequent collision (Middle–Late Carboniferous), post-collision intraplate reactivation (Early Permian–Early Triassic), and stabilization (Mesozoic and Cenozoic).

The field trip includes visits to the copper-polymetallic and gold mines, as well as to pegmatite veins with rare metal mineralization. During the trip we will also visit the Museum of Mining History in Zmeinogorsk, the Museum of the History of Stone Carving in Kolyvan, Kolyvanskoye Lake and enjoy views of the North-Western Altai.

Expected weather conditions:
Sunny, hot during the day (up to 30ºC), windy, and cold during the night (10-15ºC).

General information:
The field geophysical camp is aimed at young geoscientists wishing to get acquainted closer with diverse geophysical techniques and take direct part in state-of-the-art equipment measurements. A presumable set of methods and tools includes the vertical electric sounding, electric profiling, transient electromagnetic sounding, magnetotelluric sounding, ground-penetrating radar, electromagnetic scanner, magnetic survey. The targets of research are located in the neighborhood of Akademgorodok and the Novosibirsk region. We plan to visit several geophysical observatories, as well as Scientific Production Enterprise of Geophysical Equipment “Looch”. Apart from everything else, the field camp affords a unique opportunity for sharing experiences, informal socializing and making new acquaintances.

Expected weather condition:
Sunny and not cold daytime (15-25°C) and nighttime (10-15°C), rare rains.
